2015 Apr 14

Business Administration major, Andrew Clayton of Edgewater Park, NJ spent Spring Break volunteering in New Orleans as a member of the Mission: I'm Home student organization. For the past seven years, Mission: I'm Home has organized the Alternative Spring Break Trip to rebuild from Hurricane Katrina.

During the week of Spring Break Stevenson students, faculty, and staff spend the week volunteering with the St. Bernard Project, Habitat for Humanity, and Camp Restore. These hardworking Mustangs were involved with every aspect of the rebuilding effort, from building the foundation, to weatherproofing the outside of a house, and installing the siding. In addition to rebuilding homes, students were introduced to the culture of New Orleans and met with several families affected by Hurricane Katrina.

To sum up the Spring Break experience, one student shared, "Words don't do justice for how amazing this trip was! It was absolutely awesome to be a part of making a stranger's life better. Every person deserves a strong roof over their house and will get one. Seeing the reality of Hurricane Katrina was eye-opening! This experience has changed my life in an indescribable way and has made me a better human being! I love this trip and all the people who are also here! I can't wait to come back again!"
