Arwa Salhab, From Newark, DE Becomes a CRLA Certified Tutor.

2016 Oct 3

Stevenson University Nursing major Arwa Salhab is one of several students to be recognized as certified tutors by the CRLA. The students were presented with this opportunity through working at the on-campus tutoring center The Academic Link.

CRLA stands for the College Reading and Learning Association, which is a professional organization that certifies tutoring and mentoring programs internationally through the International Tutor Training Program Certification (ITTPC) and the International Mentor Training Program Certification (IMTPC), respectively. When a program is certified, they are then able to provide individual certifications to the tutors/mentors that meet the requirements. There are three levels possible: certification (level 1), advanced certification (level 2), and master certification (level 3).

There are different requirements and topics learned in order to reach the different levels. Level I: 10 hours of training, 25 hours of actual tutoring, and a formal evaluation meeting with their supervisor. Level II: an additional 10 hours of training (20 total), an additional 25 hours of actual tutoring (50 total), and a formal evaluation meeting with their supervisor. Level III: an additional 10 hours of training (30 total), an additional 25 hours of actual tutoring (75 total), and a formal evaluation meeting with their supervisor.

Some students were certified for more than one level within the same ceremony. The students, and their level achieved, are listed below.

Level I: Emily Haas, Courtney Hohn, Jazz Jacobs, Ryan James, Delaney Patterson, Marisa Elrick, Kyah Griffin, Janaya Slaughter, Ashley Stept, Diana Perez.
