Brooklyn Park, MD resident Ashley Manning volunteers at the 3rd Annual Project Homeless Connect event in Baltimore to aid the local homeless community

2014 Oct 22

Ashley Manning was just one of the many Stevenson students who came out to the Baltimore Convention Center on October 2, 2014 for the 3rd Annual Project Homeless Connect. This event is sponsored by the United Way of Central Maryland and helps those who are homeless along with those who are at risk of becoming homeless. According to the official website:

"The event provides on-site services for the local homeless community, such as medical exams and screenings, haircuts, legal advice, identification, access to healthy food, and more. Participating homeless and at-risk individuals and families are paired with a volunteer guide, who helps participants navigate the various services and share the experience of the event."

Project Homeless Connect in 2013 proved to be a huge success, as the event helped 2,000 people receive haircuts, dental cares, free cell phones, state photo IDs and more. According to the official United Way website, "50 percent of participants reported that they could not have received these services without Project Homeless Connect."

Project Homeless Connect is a national program that has been recognized by the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness (USICH). To find out more about the program, visit the website at http://www.uwcm.org/main/index.php/project-homeless-connect-baltimore.html.
