McLane Swanhart, From Mount Airy, MD, Volunteered in New Orleans During Winter Break

2016 Feb 4

Business Communications major McLane Swanhart is one of ten Stevenson University students who spent part of their winter break volunteering in New Orleans. These students are members of Mission: I'm Home, a student organizations dedicated to rebuilding homes destroyed by natural disasters. This was Mission: I'm Home's ninth trip to New Orleans.

Students volunteered as part of the St. Bernard Project in New Orleans, whose mission is to shorten the time between disaster and full recovery by ensuring that disaster-impacted citizens and communities recover in a prompt, efficient and predictable manner. During the trip, students participated in tasks such as interior and exterior painting, installing insulation, and fence building. In addition to labor tasks, they had the opportunity to learn about the New Orleans culture and speak with families who lost their homes during Katrina.

Thank you for your committment to service, McLane!
