Stevenson University senior, and Medical Laboratory Science major, Megan Toms, is the 2015 recipient of the Susan Palmer Slattery Endowed Scholarship Fund.

The Susan Palmer Slattery Endowed Scholarship Fund was established in memory of Stevenson University's beloved Department Chair and Professor of Mathematics, Susan Palmer Slattery, Ph.D., who passed away on August 16, 2010. Dr. Slattery came to Stevenson University in 2005 to chair the mathematics department, perfectly balancing and complementing the leadership team in the emerging School of the Sciences. She was an inspiration for students and faculty in pursuit of academic excellence, and she actively promoted collegiality and scholarship across disciplines. Dr. Slattery championed STEM education for people of all ages, and led numerous K-12 outreach programs in the sciences. Her love of life and learning was boundless, and her memory will be forever cherished by the entire Stevenson community.

This $2000 scholarship is awarded each year to a deserving female mathematics or science major, who embodies similar qualities and virtues to those of Dr. Susan Palmer Slattery. Some of these characteristics include, but are not limited to, smart, honest, caring, helpful, tireless worker, self-starter, takes initiative, and supports advancement of women in mathematics and science. The student honored with this scholarship must also be of at least junior academic status with a GPA of 3.7 or higher, and has completed the application and interview process with the selection committee.
