Millsboro, DE Resident, and Stevenson University Student, Corrin Harris Traveled to New Orleans For an Alternative Spring Break Trip

2016 Apr 13

Business Communication major Corrin Harris is one of the 32 Stevenson University students that traveled to New Orleans to participate in service work over their spring break.

These students volunteered with the St. Bernard Project and Habitat for Humanity in New Orleans to help rebuild homes destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. Throughout the week, students had the opportunity to learn more about the culture of New Orleans, and met homeowners affected by Hurricane Katrina. These students are members of Mission: I'm Home, a student organizations dedicated to rebuilding homes destroyed by natural disasters.

Students described their time in a highly positive manner, making statements such as "Mission: I'm Home is a great opportunity to give back to a community that is still in need of help and other students should definitely participate because the people are great and the experience is amazing." and "The trip is amazing and has done so much for me in terms of changing my perspective on many scenarios and life in general. It is all encompassing because the trip allows you to give back to the community that has tried to recover from devastation, has grown and started friendships, has taught me new skills and emersed me into a new culture. I couldn't have asked for a better alternative spring break trip to be a part of. I constantly play the trip and memories in my head and smile at it all. I highly recommend you to be a part of something that you will cherish forever." This certainly was a unique experience for all students involved, and surely a time they will never forget.
