Robert Wingert, From Hanover Township, PA, Participated in University Wide Service Day

2015 Dec 7

Robert Wingert is one of the 327 Stevenson University students, faculty, and staff that participated in Mustangs Make a Difference Day. Over 20 campus clubs and organizations took part in the university wide service day, where they completed many projects that provided support to a local non-profit organization. This event occurred in conjunction with the movement "Day to Serve", which began in Washington D.C., Virginia, Maryland, and West Virginia as an effort to get people involved in service projects each year.

Lamda Pi Eta paired up with the Cool Kids Campaign, where students made over 155 "get well" cards for children with cancer. SU Mission: I'm Home made seven bird houses and 75 bird feeders, which were donated to Irvine Nature Center. The Human Services Club partnered with Hugs for Our Soldiers to make 40 "welcome home" signs for veterans returning home. Students in the Psychology 215 course put together 45 care kits to give to the homeless.

There were also 325 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches created for Our Daily Bread, and Student Government Association had 300 coupons clipped for the Maryland Food Bank. A stream cleanup was another activity that took place during Mustangs Make a Difference Day. Many students, faculty, and staff helped clean up a small stream near campus, where they collected 32 bags of trash.

These are only a few of the many successful projects that occurred throughout the day, and only some of the ways Stevenson students are involved with the local community.
