Stevenson University Senior Holley Cox From Taneytown, MD, Collects over 100 Pairs of Shoes for Patients in Need

2015 May 13

Holley Cox, a Stevenson University nursing senior, collected 138 pairs of shoes for Johns Hopkins patients. Cox was assigned to Johns Hopkins for her practicum and was to search for a need in that particular unit, then create either a project that would educate the public about the need, or develop a way to solve the problem herself.

While spending time at Johns Hopkins, Cox recognized that there are many homeless individuals that come in to the Emergency Room that are deprived of footwear. The nurses at the hospital are in charge of providing the patients who are in need with appropriate clothing or footwear, thus encouraging Cox to develop an action plan that would supply the nurses with shoes for the patients. She set a goal to collect 50 pairs of shoes for Johns Hopkins; however, after reaching out to friends, family, and the Stevenson community, Cox collected a total of 138 pairs of shoes. She gathered shoes in all sizes, for men, women and children to donate to the nurses of Johns Hopkins. Cox said that the nurses were highly appreciative of her efforts, and being able to help them out made her feel great for giving back to the community.
